My new heroes at the Capitol

Some have been busy up at the House, despite it being run for almost a year by a despicably misguided and cruel group of Republicans.

Rep. Mark Pocan and 12 others just introduced 8 – EIGHT! – bills to address the worst offenses of Medicare Advantage and try to get traditional Medicare back on track.

They grouped the bills into three categories:
Delays and denials – disincentivizing companies, automatic appeals, transparency

Overcharging – history of defrauding, reduce unnecessary spending, improves process and clarity

Strengthening Traditional Medicare – prohibits Medicare Advantage from becoming the default option for seniors (proposed in Project 2025!), doctor directory**

**I’m not sure about that doctor directory thing. My experience is that no matter how good their intentions are on this, the provider directories always fall short.   Offices don’t keep them up-to-date, locations are incomplete, situations change throughout the year, etc. This thing shouldn’t even be in the 3rd category, as it has to do with Advantage plans, not Original Medicare.

But read the press release for yourself, it’s here: https://pocan.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/pocan-introduces-package-bills-reform-medicare-advantage-strengthen

Do I think these bills need immediate attention?  Yes.

Do I think any of them will come out of committee?  No.
